As an amateur historian (not a novice because there is a difference between the two) I've found is a very good research book for Alamo buffs. However it is the views and opinions of the author. Because so much has been written about what exactly took place during those 13 days it's not easy to separate fact from fiction. If this is your first book on the subject I highly recommend purchasing Remember The Alamo as well as other books on the subject so that you can draw your own conclusions about what took place. Reading other Alamo books you'll discover that there are a number of conflicting thoughts about what took place at the Alamo. My conclusion based on my own research can be summed up by stating that nobody really knows what took place towards the end of the siege. Readers should keep in mind that what we call The Alamo is actually the church and that the Long Barracks has been reconstructed.Product details

Remember the Alamo Amelia Edith Huddleston 18311919 Barr 9781172195954 Books Reviews
At first I did not like this book because it was too flowery for my taste until I read the history of Ms. Barr. Wow what a life and what a genius she must have been. I realized it was written in the 1880's and in the vernacular that was used then. I noticed what I believe are some historical inaccuracies but they were minor compared to her knowledge of Mexican life and mores of the 1830's.
I really did not understand the story. I would have preferred more of an insight as to the plight of the text and.
I am a Japanese, so that I don't know how girls in Texas are truely. My impression of American girls were those like one in True Grit. I was surprized by the differencebetween women in this novel and a girl in True Grit.
Another point I learned is why texas has a flag studded with only one star, and it is called as a lone star state.
The speach by Sam Houston explained my question for a long time
Not a bad story, just thought a book with "Alamo" in the title would have more Alamo in it. Read it when you've finished reading everything else that has anything to do with Alamo history,,,,,,,,, };>{>
Good historical info, names, dates, etc. Rather sappy writing, but I think it was typical of the time and culture.
I bought this to use at Texas Pioneer Forts' Living History events (I was looking for a small prayer book to carry in my reticule). The novel itself is a little flowery, but the condition of the book is wonderful and it is a great conversation starter.
anyone expecting a historical review of what happened at the Alamo will be sorely disappointed. This book is an account of a family of Mexicans during the early 1800s who lived near the Alamo. There is literally no references to the fall of the Alamo other than a few pages where one member discussed what happened during the battle....
